Ranger Seat Covers from 1983 to 2025+

Ford originally used the Ranger name with the Edsel Ranger in 1958. Then, in 1965, the Ranger name was used as a Trim Level for the F. Series truck. Seven years later, in 1972, the Ranger name was again used as a trim level, but this time with the Ford Bronco. Finally, in 1982, the Ford Ranger was introduced as a Compact Pickup Truck for the 1983 Model Year and with that model we introduced the first Ford Ranger Seat Covers.

Ford Ranger Seat Cover Fabrics

The original Ford Ranger featured Cut-Pile Woven Fabrics, Viny and later on, a combination of the short velour style fabric with vinyl trim. It was also an era when you could get original Ford Ranger Seat Covers in a Cordovan type Red or even a Lapis Blue colour. Today, factory original interior colors are the basic Black, Grey or Tan.

In 1993, for the 2nd generation, we saw a departure away from the velour type fabric to a flat-woven fabric that was shared between the Ranger and the Ford Explorer. The colors for this New Line called "Cirrus" were, Med. Graphite Grey, Med. Saddle Tan, Med. Willow Green, and Med. Lapis Blue - it was a time when the Big3 were still using color to enhance an interior.

Which Ford Ranger Model do you Drive?

With the introduction of the 1983 Ford Ranger, Ford Motor Company evolved its relationship with Mazda, who was supplying Ford with the mid-size pickup called Courier from 1972-1982. Bringing in design team and taking ownership of its own brand was timely because America was starting to look for that Mid-sized truck, but with a bit more power and the Ranger delivered. The 1983-1988 Ford Ranger Seat Covers were born, and this generation also included a 1986 introduction of the 60/40 Split-Bench Seat with the Large Rectangular moulded head rests plus the Large Fold-Out Arm Rest with the Two Cup Holders in the XLT Trim Level.

Ford Ranger Seat Covers evolved a bit with the 2nd generation seats from 1989-92. The Bench Seat Covers for the Ford Ranger were still a 60/40 split, but the moulded head rests were eliminated and so the top of the backrest was flat all the way across. As part of the 1992 model year, they shared the F150 Seats with the Ford Ranger which was a high back bucket seat and they also introduced an updated 60/40 Split-bench bottom with High back backrests and a Fold-Down Console Arm Rest with the small Black Button to open the storage lid.

The 1993-97, 3rd Generation received a completely new rounder look that Mazda picked up to offer as their Mada B. Series truck until 2004. They featured the same seat offerings for both the Ford and Mazda, but with updated Fabric Designs and the seat covers for Ford Ranger from 1992 would still fit the 1993-97 Ranger seats.

The 4th Generation ran from 1998-2003 and although there were few exciting changes for seat styles, they did introduce the 60/40 split-bench seat with camel hump style moulded head rests. The big news was the introduction of the First Ford EV and not the Ford Focus which would be introduced in 2012, but 14 years ahead of that in 1998-2002. They weren't offered beyond that due to the high price of more than $50,000 USD for a mid-sized truck that had a range of 65 miles and a top speed of 65 mph - Not bad for way back then!

The 5th Generation from 2004-2011, was a Major Refresh / Redesign with more space and updated seats. The Ford Ranger Seat Covers were available for the New Bucket and 60/40 Split Seats with Low Bucket Backrests and the Adjustable Head Rests.. Both now featured Adjustable Head Rests.

The 6th Generation ran from 2019-2023 and saw the return of the Ford Ranger after a hiatus of 7 years. The Ford Ranger front seat covers were a Low Back Bucket Style with Adjustable Head Rests. The rear of the truck was offered as a SuperCab with Small Fold-Down Jump Seats that also had Adjustable Head Rests. The Super Crew version featured a Bench Seat with an Off-Center Fold-Down Arm Rest and 3 Head Rests.

The 7th Generation was introduced in 2024, and the seat resembled the 2019-23 seat, but with a much sportier flare. The front low back bucket seats on the XL and XLT had adjustable head rests, but with the Raptor Edition, the backrest had raised shoulders so the head rest could sit lower into the top of the backrest. As for the Rear Seat, Ranger seat covers were again a solid bench, but with the 3 head rests and again an off-centre fold-down arm rest with 2 cupholders.

Which Ford Ranger Seat Cover Fabric is Best?

The most popular seat cover fabric in the eastern US is the OEM with its combination of a solid fabric and center inserts in OEM style fabric that looks ready for work, and we know that it will wear very well because of its high abrasion rating for wear. For the Midwest and Pacific Northwest it's slightly different. Some are truly loyal to what their grand dad had in his truck - the Classic Western style Saddle Blanket with a heavy duty non=woven backing that prevents dust from getting through to your original upholstery. After that, we have a split between Neoprene (Neo-Ultra ™) and CORDURA® Classic 500 Denier or the alternative to Carhartt Seat Covers, our Natural Cotton fabric that is far superior to a SeatSaver Poly-twill. This wears very well and is 100% Waterproof and gets manufactured in 2-3 days.

Vinyl Seat Covers for Ford Ranger

This used to be an XL Trim Level Standard, and it did the job of keeping everything off your original seats. It is 100% Waterproof, with an easy to wipe surface for any kinds of spills or crumbs. It is specially produced for Northwest Seat Covers and is Prop 65 Compliant. The only thing about vinyl or leatherette, as some people refer to it, is that it get quite warm in the summer months and cold in the winter months. The warmer months are easier to deal with, but the colder months are a bit tough. In 2025 we are looking forward to introducing our Heat Seat Covers for these types of situations.

Summary

Most of our fabrics are Exclusive to Northwest Seat Covers, and many are 100% Waterproof, Dust-Proof or Specially designed for Ventilated Seats. When it comes to fabric selection and the different engineering details, Northwest is a Market Leader and Trendsetter. We Guearantee that your Ford Ranger Seat Covers will be manufactured by industry professionals who have been with our company for more than 20 years. They know what they're doing and know how to produce a high quality product that is proudly manufactured in North America.

Couldn't beat the quality and construction of these covers. That being said, the Installation Manual was pretty much useless! Throw it away and play a guessing game on the install. Sorry, but Live Chat was of absolutely no help at all. Took almost 4 hours to install these covers on the rear seats of my '12 Silverado because of trial and error.. They did come out nice tho, have to admit!
